Birth announcement for a boy: a personal, custom design

A birth announcement for your boy featuring your dog next to the cradle, the colors of the nursery, or a big brother coming to take a peek. Do you have something like that in mind? I am Anouk, the illustrator behind another view. I create your card completely custom, with a unique illustration.

You don’t need to know exactly what it should look like yet. View examples of my work below and tell me what appeals to you. I love to brainstorm with you, from the first rough sketch to the digital file or the printed result.

Your family as inspiration for the birth announcement

Which details make a card truly yours? Think of a big brother or sister, your pet, a favorite place, or an object from the nursery. In the card with the cradle and the dogs, you can see how such elements come together to form a single illustration.

You don’t need to have a fully developed idea yet. A photo of the nursery, a few colors, or a description of your family already helps to choose a direction. Together, we decide what to include on the card and what to leave out, so that your son’s name stands out beautifully.

Even a small detail can mean a lot: a flower that reminds you of someone, an animal you love, or a landscape that suits you.

Bold, calm, or colorful: which style suits you?

A birth announcement for a boy doesn’t have to be blue. Above all, choose an atmosphere that you love and that fits the illustration.

  • Calm and soft: beige, sand, or blue-grey with a simple composition and space around the name.
  • Warm and natural: green and earth tones with plants, animals, or a landscape.
  • Cheerful and colorful: playful details, a striking animal, or an illustrated family.
  • Personal and bold: an adventurous scene or a pet as a recognizable part of the card.

Feel free to send examples of what appeals to you. I translate your preferences into a cohesive design. Want to know more about my approach? Read more about having a custom birth announcement made.

From your idea to an illustrated birth announcement

  1. Discussing your wishes. This can be done by phone or email, whichever you prefer. We discuss the idea, the colors, and the due date. Once I know what you would like, I will provide a suitable quote. After your approval, I get to work.
  2. A rough hand sketch. I often start with photos you provide. I create several sketches and develop a proposal. I send that to you for feedback. In this phase, everything can still be adjusted.
  3. Digital development. Is the sketch to your liking? Then I will develop it digitally. I add colors and details and send the result to you again for feedback.
  4. Delivering the card. I set the files to the agreed dimensions. You can choose to purchase only the digital design or have me handle the printing as well.

A design process takes an average of three to six weeks, depending on the design and coordination. Therefore, please get in touch during your pregnancy. We will discuss in advance how to add the final birth details and what the schedule for printing is.

A digital design or complete with printing

Do you want to have the birth announcement printed yourself, or would you like me to arrange it? Both are possible. You can purchase only the digital design or have me handle the printing as well.

Do you already have a printer in mind? Let me know in advance. With my background as a graphic designer, I can deliver the files in the correct format. Also, let me know if you want matching envelopes and closure stickers, and I will include those wishes.

We first discuss what you need. Then I will provide a suitable quote. This way, you know exactly where you stand before I start the first sketch.

What text do you put on the birth announcement?

In addition to the illustration, the text deserves attention. Before the final layout, collect the details you want on the card:

  • Your son’s name and possibly his full names.
  • The date of birth; weight, length, and time of birth are optional.
  • The names of the parents and any brothers or sisters.
  • Contact details and your wishes for visitors.
  • A short welcome sentence or a personal birth poem.

A simple sentence like ‘There you are, sweet little boy’ can be enough. Looking for more ideas? View the birth texts and poems. Double-check all names, numbers, and contact details one last time before printing.
